Continuing to illustrate why morality is key to a healthy and stable society, Yuri Bezmenov, that KGB agent who escaped his oppressive regime by disguising himself as a hippie, tell us:
In the area of social life, by encouraging you to put your individual RIGHTS over your OBLIGATIONS (any obligations private, financial, moral, patriotic etc.) the subverter achieves the desired effect: a society composed of IRRESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUALS, each one “doing his own thing,” and acting according to the “law of jungle.” Such subversion of society is the first step to tyranny.
I really don't need to say anymore about this, do I? Anyone can see how this has affected the family, debt burdens, apathetic attitudes, and the disintegration of many areas of our society.
Don't like your spouse? Divorce them! Thanks to no-fault divorce, you don't even have to prove anything! What's that? You want to prove that your spouse did something immoral? Well, we really don't care because it it'll just end the same way, but because divorce is a multi-billion dollar industry, we'll be glad to charge you $250/hr to hear what you think your spouse did "wrong". Just don't watch me doodle on my legal pad.
Are you over-extended on your credit cards? Are you about to lose your house? That's ok, someone will be along to bail you out soon. Don't worry about your "obligations", ok? What's that? What does obligation mean? Well, I could have guessed you'd not heard of that word/concept before or you wouldn't be in this predicament.
Have you heard what's going on in Washington? (Pretend this question was asked 4-5 years ago.) Don't look at me like I'm from space. Don't you care that the Federal Reserve is printing money out of thin air and devaluing your money.
The "ME" generation is the concept that best describes this phenomenon. The law of the jungle, might makes right, "it's ok if I can get away with it" is the prevailing mentality. The duty to make good on one's obligations is a moral mentality that our children are not taught in school. If they were taught this, what would be the rationale behind it. Children will always has "Why?" until they reach the terminus of the question line. If you can't tell the child, 'that's what God said,' and point to it in His word, then they will never have a solid grip on right and wrong. This is important because believing in absolute truth gives one great confidence to face and stand up to whatever challenges to His Righteousness may come. This is the greatest obligation of all.
