Anyone else think this is kind of weird? She recently became a citizen of Switzerland. Her in-laws were native Swiss, but what I don't get is why and now?
You can read the entire article if you want, but it doesn't help explain what she wants with a Swiss citizenship. I, for one, am a little miffed that a sitting member of the Permanent Select Committee for Intelligence now has allegiance to another country. Apparently, I'm not alone. Andrew Pavelyev of the HuffPo writes:
POLITICO reported Tuesday that the Republican congresswoman became a Swiss citizen on March 19 due to her husband’s heritage. Her three youngest children also automatically received Swiss citizenship. (A Bachmann spokesperson said in an email that “some of their children wanted to exercise their eligibility for dual-citizenship so they went through the process as a family.”)

American citizens should not have any other citizenship. Before I even became naturalized, I renounced my Russian citizenship (and had to pay the Russian embassy for the pleasure). Then, at the naturalization ceremony I had to declare that "I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen," and so does every naturalized citizen.
But it is an entirely different matter to apply for foreign citizenship, let alone on such flimsy grounds as having foreign-born in-laws.What makes it worse, is that Mrs. Bachmann has repeatedly and proudly proclaimed her American patriotism, especially during her recent presidential campaign (I am really curious to know whether she applied for foreign citizenship while still running for president of the United States). To make it even worse, she is a member of Congress (currently running for re-election). Read the rest, because he makes a lot of great points. My question is, what's coming across her intelligence desk that she is making an out for herself? Her kids wanted dual-citizenship, so she, a sitting Congresswoman had to get it too? Yeah, right. Maybe Homeland Security is prepping for civil war for when the dollar collapses and she plans to be hiking the Alps. Or maybe, she wants to show how much she agrees with Ron Paul's foreign policy by becoming a citizen of a country that has a track record of neutrality.
